The Astros outhit Pittsburgh on Saturday but, otherwise, it was clear which team was in control. The Pirates spanked J.A. Happ for five runs in five innings to "Cruz" to a 5-2 verdict. Andrew McCutchen blasted a solo homer amongst his four hits to pace the Bucs.
Jose Tabata also homered and started the Pirate offense with a leadoff triple in the first inning. He later scored on a sacrifice fly.
The tale of the tape came in the sixth inning when both teams loaded the bases with nobody out. In Houston's half, they got an RBI grounder from Justin Maxwell to plate Jose Altuve before Matt Downs, subbing at third for Chris Johnson, bounced into a double play.
In Pittsburgh's half of the sixth, Rhiner Cruz got the first out before Clint Barmes got the fourth run home with a sacrifice fly. The fifth run scored on a wild pitch.
Jordan Schafer and Brian Bogusevic both had two of Houston's nine hits, including a hustle double to score Chris Snyder for the Astros' first run.
Juan Cruz picked up a cheap save with the final three outs.
We'll see if A.J. has more success than J.A. when A.J. Burnett (1-2) throws for the Bucs in the 12:35 Central series finale. Wandy Rodriguez (3-3) will start for the Astros.
