The state of Florida probably is the world capital for golf courses so they will understand what the term "bogey" means. In Houston, though, it means Brian Bogusevic. The Astros got three pinch-hits Tuesday, no bigger than Bogey's two-out pinch-hit double to left that plated Travis Buck with the winning run in a 3-2 triumph over Miami.
Houston could do nothing with Anibal Sanchez for five innings, just as they did nothing against Carlos Zambrano the night before but they got a break in the sixth that was the turning point.
After Marwin Gonzalez had a pinch single under the glove of Hanley Ramirez and Jose Altuve beat out a roller to short, Carlos Lee worked a walk to fill the bases before Travis Buck sent a two-out dribbler to second baseman Omar Infante which appeared to kill the rally. But Infante muffed the ball, then dropped the pick up then threw wildly to first as two runs scored. He was given two errors on the play.
The Marlins had a 2-0 lead earlier although Aneury Rodriguez gave up just two hits and struck out six over six innings in his first appearance with the Astros this season. He gave up a solo homer to Infante in the fourth and another Crawford shot to John Buck in the fifth. Rodriguez also got the game's first hit with a slap single in the third.
For his reward, he was sent back to Oklahoma City after the game as the Astros activated reliever Rhiner Cruz from the disabled list. They had sent down reliever Enerio Del Rosario when Rodriguez was called up.
Houston was 3-for-3 pinch-hitting (Justin Maxwell had the other) to increase their team batting average to .312 for the season in pinch-hit situations.
The 6-2 homestand finishes Wednesday night with a 7:05 Central tilt. Lucas Harrell (2-2) will take the hill against struggling Josh Johnson (0=3). Houston will take a 14-16 record into battle after stopping Miami's seven-game winning streak.
