For four innings, Bud Norris cruised through the Milwaukee lineup on Tuesday. However, three home runs led to a 9-6 thumping as the Astros fell into a tie for the NL Central cellar.
Jose Altuve gave the Astros the early lead with a solo shot off Randy Wolf. This held up until the bottom of the fifth when Travis Ishikawa drilled a two-run homer. Carlos Lee's RBI double tied the game in the sixth but Corey Hart belted a two-run blast and Rickie Weeks smashed a three-run homer to give the Brew Crew a 7-2 cushion.
Houston rallied for one run in the seventh and three in the eighth but the bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding. Another run scored off Fernando Rodriguez and Brett Myers gave up the fourth Milwaukee homer, a solo shot by Carlos Gomez.
The 6-12 Astros hope to avoid a sweep for the third series in a row when they complete and afternoon tilt on Wednesday. J.A. Happ (1-1) will take the hill for Houston against Shaun Marcum (1-1) in a 12:10 Central matinee.
