Texas native Clayton Kershaw tossed seven innings of three-hit shutout ball while Matt Kemp and James Loney homered as the red-hot Dodgers continued their winning ways with a 5-1 verdict over Houston on Saturday night.
Kyle Weiland didn't pitch that badly for the Astros but he was still saddled with his third loss as he went seven innings and allowed six hits but two of them were a solo homer by Loney in the second and a two-run shot by the league-leading Kemp in the fifth.
Two more runs were scored off Rhiner Cruz in the eighth, his first runs allowed in the major leagues.
The Astros got their only run in the bottom of the eighth after Kershaw had departed. A single by Justin Maxwell off Mike McDougal was followed by three straight walks, chasing in the lone bright spot for the offense.
The 5-10 Astros close out the brief homestand hoping not to be swept. Wandy Rodriguez (0-2) will try to break the hex against Chad Billingsley (2-0). The first pitch is at 1:05 Central time.
