Norris: Mows down eight

Miracles happen at Easter which is one way to explain how the Astros could sport a winning record in their final National League season. A critical error by the Rockies also helped Houston overtake them, 3-2, on Sunday before a few faithful believers.
Bud Norris struck out eight in seven innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits. His only mistake was a two-run no-doubt homer by Wilin Rosario in the fourth. If that name sounds familiar, this was the catcher that Ed Wade could not pry loose last August when Colorado was in pursuit of Wandy Rodriguez.
A Jose Altuve triple and a Carlos Lee double in the fourth cut the lead in half but Juan Nicasio otherwise did his job over seven innings for the Rockies, hoping his bullpen would be able to close it out for him.
Rex Brothers got the first two outs in the eighth before Altuve poked a single and J.D. Martinez banked an infield single off Brothers to put two men aboard. It looked like the rally would die when Lee sent a bouncer to third baseman Jordan Pacheco who bounced his throw past Jeremy Giambi at first which allowed Altuve to tie the game while pinch-runner Brian Bixler sped to third.
Brian Bogusevic, who had never plated a run in the majors against a lefthander, spanked a single to right which plated Bixler for the Astros lead.
The drama wasn't over though. Brett Myers came in to seek his first save since 2007. He gave up a leadoff double to Michael Cuddyer and walked Todd Helton before retiring Tyler Colvin for the final out.
This may be the only time all year the Astros will sport a winning record as the Braves come to town for a three-game series. J.A. Happ will make his first start of the season against Atlanta's Brandon Beachy. The first pitch will be at 7:05 Central on Monday.
Off the field, the Astros claimed outfielder Justin Maxwell on waivers from the New York Yankees. A career .201 hitter, the 6-5 righthanded batter can play all three positions. He'll require a corresponding move to the 25-man roster on Monday when he reports to the Astros.
