A grand slam by David Wright capped a seven-run fourth inning that ended Livan Hernandez' night and let the New York Mets cruise to a 9-1 decision over the Astros Thursday night in Port St. Lucie.
Hernandez allowed eight runs (four earned) in 3-2/3rds innings, raising his spring ERA to 5.63. Wilton Lopez and Fernando Abad both pitched two relief innings without an earned run.
Mike Pelfrey handcuffed the Houston hitters on three hits over 6-1/3rd innings. Brett Wallace doubled in the second and scored on a single from Jason Castro for the game's first run. But, after that, Justin Ruggiano was the only Astro to get a hit, notching both a double and a triple.
The 13-13 Astros will spend Friday in split squad action against the neighboring Atlanta Braves. Bud Norris will get the start in the 5:05 Central contest in Kissimmee while Kyle Weiland will duel with the Braves in Lake Buena Vista with the first pitch at 6:05 Central time.
