Bernadina HR Keys Astros Loss

Johnson: Fourth spring homer

The Astros sent two players to Kansas City last week for two prospects, one of which, lefthander Kevin Chapman, got to make an appearance in Monday's contest in Viera against the Nationals. It didn't end well.

Roger Bernadina of Washington took Chapman deep for a two-run homer that highlighted a three-run fifth which keyed a 7-4 Houston loss. Before anyone panics, Chapman is projected to start the year in AA Corpus Christi and wasn't expected to be an immediate contributor. The lefty from the University of Florida has closer potential someday. Just not this day.

Jordan Lyles made the start and gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits in 4-2/3rd innings with five strikeouts. Brett Myers also gave up an insurance run.

John Lannan, who has been the subject of trade rumors this spring, kept the Astros shut down except for Chris Johnson who smacked his fourth homer of the spring to lead the club. Brandon Barnes later jacked a two-run blast off Ross Detwiler.

The Astros produced just six hits. The bats have largely gone quiet the past few days with many averages sliding back below .300. Jose Altuve (.257), Brett Wallace (.282) and J.D. Martinez (.275) were among those wearing the collar today.

Wandy Rodriguez returns to the hill Tuesday as the Astros host Cecil Fielder and the Detroit Tigers in a 12:05 Central contest. Wandy had control troubles in his last outing against the Mets and hopes to get his curveball back on track.
