The Astros held a 5-4 lead on Atlanta going into the seventh inning on Monday but Rule V draftee Rhiner Cruz failed to get an out in five hitters which led to a 10-5 defeat, Houston's first of the spring. After a single, double and walk filled the bases, Scott Moore made a throwing error that tied the game then another walk gave Atlanta the lead.
A single and a sacrifice fly plated two more runs then the Braves tacked on solo tallies in the eighth and ninth. Juan Abreu and Enerio Del Rosario surrendered the two insurance runs.
Jordan Lyles started against Jair Jurrjens. The Braves got two runs off Lyles in the first on a single by Jason Heyward. Houston answered in the second after doubles by J.D. Martinez and Matt Downs, Moore tied it up on a fielders choice that plated Jed Lowrie.
Dan Uggla homered off Xavier Cedeno and Michael Bourn tripled off Zach Duke to push the Braves back in front but Houston answered when Martinez hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth and RBI singles by Downs and J.B. Shuck reclaimed the lead in the sixth. Shuck, Downs and Lowrie each had two of the 11 Houston hits.
Wandy Rodriguez will make his first start of the spring on Tuesday when the Astros host the Mets at Kissinnee in a 12:05 Central start time.
