Wallace: Snaps long drought

By dumb luck, this game was the 200,000th in major league history and, at times, it seemed like it could last until the 300,000th. As a milestone, the game should represent all that is great about the game of baseball.
But this was the Astros and the Rockies, two teams going nowhere and the winning run was scored on a bases-loaded walk in the 13th. Leading up to this was a walk, a bunt single, a throwing error and an intentional walk. What followed was a sacrifice fly to cement a 4-2 Colorado verdict. Classic baseball this was not.
Houston took the early lead on a sacrifice fly by J.D. Martinez and a solo homer by Brett Wallace (yes, that Brett Wallace). The Rockies tied it in the fourth on Jordan Pacheco's two-run double. From there, it was a snoozefest for the next nine innings.
The Astros trotted out nine pitchers, including Jordan Lyles who was the losing pitcher in the 13th-inning implosion. The Rockies managed just five hits all night. Houston generated only six.
The series finale takes place Sunday in a 1:05 Central duel. Lucas Harrell (0-1) will pitch for the Astros against old fossil Kevin Millwood (3-3). Millwood one-hit Houston once upon a time in the playoffs. That was last century, however.
