Last year, Brett Myers was great for five months but wilted in September. This year, Myers has been great in September but not as good the previous five months. Myers picked up his third straight win on Sunday, to match the number of victories he's had leading up to September. He allowed two runs and seven hits over 7-2/3rd innings to clip the Cubs, 3-2.

All of Houston's scoring came in the first inning when Ryan Dempster walked the first two batters and J.D. Martinez followed with an RBI single. Two outs later, Clint Barmes poked a two-run single to center to take an early three-run lead.

Martinez and Barmes had two hits each to lead the offense. Mark Melancon got the final four outs (three on strikeouts) to post his 18th save.

The club continues their road trip Monday in Cincinnati to start a three-game series. J.A. Happ (6-15) will be the starting pitcher for the Astros in the 6:10 Central contest. The Reds had not chosen a pitcher at the time this recap was posted.
