Keppinger: Walk-off hit

For the second night in a row, former Astro Jeff Keppinger produced the game-winning hit as the Giants outlasted Houston, 2-1, on Saturday night as they try desperately to stay in the Western Division race.

Keppinger singled home frequent nemesis Mark DeRosa in the 10th inning to send the Golden Gaters home happy. Another former Astro, Carlos Beltran, drove home the other Giant tally back in the first inning.

Carlos Lee had three hits and drove home the only Astro run in the fifth when he doubled home Jason Bourgeois. Houston had just seven hits, two by Humberto Quintero.

It's something of an Astros tradition to treat opposing pitchers making their major league debut as if they were the second coming of Cy Young but the Astros outdid themselves with Eric Surkamp, called up from AA just to make this start while Jonathan Sanchez was on the disabled list. Surkamp gave up one run on six hits with three walks over six innings.

Meanwhile, Brett Myers had one of his best starts of the season and, typical of this year, got a no-decision for his efforts. Myers tossed seven innings of two-hit ball while walking three and striking out seven. Brett has not won a game in his last 13 starts.

Northern Californian Bud Norris (6-8) will pitch before friends and family on Sunday when he faces Matt Cain (10-9) in the 3:05 Central series finale. The two clubs are 3-3 in the season series and both teams have scored five runs so far in this series.
