El Ca-Bye-Oh Sinks Mets

Lee: Adios, Mets

With one swing of the bat, a bad offensive night became a winning 3-2 night over the New York Mets on Thursday. The Astros had just one hit off Pat Misch over the first six innings but the first two Astros in the bottom of the seventh, Angel Sanchez and Hunter Pence, singled. Then Carlos Lee bashed a home run into Williamsport for the game-winner.

If the Astros offense seemed underwhelming, so was the way the Mets got their two runs in the fourth off Bud Norris. New York scored without the benefit of a hit but with the benefit of four - count 'em four - questionable calls by the umpiring crew which twice caused Brad Mills to run out on the field and argue. If Mills wasn't such a calm man, he might have been out there to argue all four.

Norris stayed around long enough to get his sixth win, allowing just two hits and two walks over seven innings. Wilton Lopez gave up a single in the eighth and Brandon Lyon tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his fifth save.

Houston closed the long homestand with a 6-4 ledger to take their home record to a respectable 32-33 mark on the season, particularly after losing their first six to start the year.

Now a long road trip begins with a three-game weekend set against the Florida Marlins. J.A. Happ (3-1) will get the journey rolling when he faces Anibal Sanchez (9-8) in a 6:10 Central start. The trip will continue next week into Philadelphia and New York.

The day began with the Astros sending infielder Pedro Feliz to the St. Louis Cardinals for minor league catcher-turned-pitcher David Carpenter. Houston activated infielder Tommy Manzella from the disabled list to replace Feliz on the roster.
