Those $9 box seats were full this weekend and the fans got their money's worth. J.A. Happ allowed just three hits over six innings as the Astros shrugged off a 2-1 deficit and scored late for an 8-2 sweeper over the Pirates on Sunday. Those fans weren't dumb. They knew the Bucs hadn't beaten Houston at Minute Maid all year and Sunday was no exception.
Hunter Pence continued a hot weekend with three hits to boost his average to .285. Chris Johnson also had three hits, including a solo homer. Jason Castro added a pair of hits and Pedro Feliz drilled a two-run pinch-hit double.
Mark Melancon, the primary dividend in the Lance Berkman trade, made his Houston debut and tossed a perfect inning with two strikeouts. Tim Byrdak and Jeff Fulchino closed it out.
Now 4-2 on the homestand, Houston hosts the New York Mets for four nights, starting Monday at 7:05 Central with Wandy Rodriguez (9-11) dueling Jonathon Niese (7-5) in a battle of lefthanders. Since June 24th, Wandy is 6-1 with a 1.79 ERA in nine starts.
