Break up the Astros! (oh, wait...they already did)
It looked like the Astros' five-game winning streak was going to come to an end at Busch Stadium on Monday but Houston savaged the St. Louis bullpen for seven runs in the final two frames to pull away for a 9-4 thumping.
Jeff Keppinger led the way with four RBIs on an eighth-inning double and a ninth-inning single. Brett Wallace got his first RBI and Chris Johnson drove in a pair to open the lead.
Brett Myers got another quality start with six innings of work but trailed, 3-2, when he left. His first run allowed wasn't really his fault as the Astros kicked the ball all over the infield. He later gave up a solo homer to Albert Pujols and another run in the fourth.
Newly-acquired Jake Westbrook was a little bit better for the Cardinals, allowing two runs in six innings, but he lost his chance at a win when the bullpen melted down behind him. Nelson Figueroa got the victory despite allowing a run in the seventh on a double by Felipe Lopez.
The Astros try to increase their winning streak Tuesday night with budding Cardinal killer Bud Norris (3-7) opposing lefthander Jaime Garcia (9-4) in the 7:15 Central contest. Norris is 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA lifetime against the Redbirds.
