Astros Start 2nd Half Right

Myers: Keep The Phone Charged

If Ed Wade's phone hasn't been ringing about Brett Myers, I'm not sure what it would take. Mr. Quality Start tossed 7-2/3rds innings of five-hit ball, allowing two runs in a 5-2 victory in Pittsburgh on Friday to open the second half of the season. It gives Myers a 7-6 record with a 3.35 ERA and the only winning record in the starting rotation.

Myers had help, of course. Jeff Keppinger drove in three runs, including a solo shot in the sixth off D.J. Carrasco. Jason Bourgeois, a surprise starter in left for Carlos Lee, scored twice and swiped a pair of bases. Humberto Quintero had a pair of hits, including a double that got the second run home, and Angel Sanchez caught the Pirates napping with a squeeze bunt that got an insurance run home. Hunter Pence added two hits and scored twice.

Brandon Lyon finished the eighth and Matt Lindstrom worked the ninth for his 22nd save.

The Astros are now 7-0 against the lowly Bucs and hope to continue that trend Saturday night in a 6:05 Central start when Bud Norris (2-6) squares off against Austin's Ross Ohlendorf (1-7).
