Bud Norris didn't have a bad night. Granted, he had created unrealistic expectations after dominating the Cardinals in previous matchups. Through seven innings on Friday, Norris allowed just two runs but gave up a three-run shot by Matt Holliday in the eighth as the Redbirds took an 8-0 shutout to snap three-game streaks for both teams.
You can't win when you can't score so all credit goes to Adam Wainwright who won his 13th of the year while tossing eight innings of six-hit shutout ball. After a day off and three days against the Terrible Towels, Houston fans had to rediscover reality as the Astros returned to their losing ways with a resounding thud.
Albert Pujols and Scott Schumaker had RBI hits early and then it stayed 2-0 until the eighth when Norris ran out of steam. Pujols banged his 21st homer in the ninth off Casey Daigle to take any remaining drama out of the game.
Brett Myers (5-6) tries to right the ship on Saturday in a 6:05 kickoff at Minute Maid when he faces old favorite Jeff Suppan (0-4). Suppan is 3-7 with a 5.00 ERA in his career against Houston.
