"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the game?"
Brad Lincoln's mother has reason to be proud of her son. She was in the stands at Minute Maid Park Tuesday as the Lake Jackson and Houston Cougar product took the mound against the hometown Astros.
It wasn't pretty as Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman homered to pace a 6-2 Houston win over Pittsburgh. Much prettier was Wandy Rodriguez' third straight win, a seven-inning quality start that only hit one rough patch the whole night.
All-Star Michael Bourn got the scoreboard clicking in the first in his own patented style. He legged out an infield hit, stole second, moved to third on a fly out and scored on a ground out. That's when we've come to expect the scoring to end but then Lee teed off on Lincoln with a home run over the yellow line in left center for a 2-0 lead.
Bourn singled again in the third then scampered around the bases on Jeff Keppinger's double. Berkman then followed with a two-run homer that neatly tucked itself into Williamsport, just inside the Fowl Pole for a 5-0 advantage.
Lincoln hung around for five innings but the damage had been done. Wandy fanned ten Buccos then Wilton Lopez, Tim Byrdak and Chris Sampson finished up as the Astros stretched their season record versus Pittsburgh to 4-0.
Brian Moehler (1-4) tests the 10-game Wins-day Wednesday streak when he pitches against righthander Daniel McCutcheon (1-3) in a 7:05 Central start. McCutcheon, a native of McKinney TX, would be best advised to tell his mom to get those game photos taken early.
