The Astros actually had the lead Sunday for the first few innings but then reality set in and Houston lost their finale at Yankee Stadium, 9-5, to the Bronx Bombers. Jorge Posada's grand slam off Casey Daigle, his second in consecutive days, was the crowning blow. New York scored 22 runs off Houston pitching in the three-game series.
Michael Bourn manufactured a run to start the game, scoring on Carlos Lee's sac fly. Robinson Cano made the first dent in Brian Moehler's day with a home run to right in the fourth and the Yankees took the lead on Ramiro Pena's two-run single. After three walks loaded the bases in the fifth, Posada unloaded some deja vu into the right field seats.
The Astros did manage a four-run outburst of their own in the sixth on Tommy Manzella's two-run single and Kevin Cash's two-run homer but it was no sweat for the Yankees who answered with two runs of their own in the sixth off Wesley Wright to finish the scoring.
Slumping Lance Berkman was left out of the lineup and will get two days of rest before Houston's next game which comes Tuesday in Kansas City against the Royals. Felipe Paulino (1-7) is scheduled to pitch in the 7:10 Central opener against Kyle Davies (4-5).
